Lauren Howell’s book, If I Was the Mayor, invites children to experience a magical journey, imagining what their town would look like if children had the power to make decisions.

The book holds many values for the young reader.   With a rhyming text, this book is fun to read and encourages the reader to make connections between the text and illustrations.  Sheldon Dawson’s illustrations are brightly colored, and extend on the details of the rhyming text.

Children will enjoy these youthful ideas for a perfect town.  The material appeals to the child’s imagination and offers a great flight of fantasy.

The book’s simple text and dramatic illustrations empower a child’s imagin ation, allowing them to reflect on what a perfect world would resemble.
